A graduate of East Stroudsburg University (BA '93  M.Ed '96) and Quakertown High School '89, the 2014 season will be his tenth as the head coach of the Fords. Coach Murphy is married and has 2 children.

Since taking over the Haverford program, Murphy has compiled a 47-49-0 overall record and a 25-19-0 Inter-Ac record. His 25league wins in 9 seasons are more than the total league wins from the 25 seasons prior to his arrival. The 2009 season was one of the best in school history, with the Fords compiling 8 wins and finishing tied for the Inter-Ac Championship, their first since 1971. 2010 saw one of the most remarkable turnarounds in school and league history. After starting 0-6 against a tough non-league schedule, the Fords finished the season 5-0, winning all of their league games and capturing Haverford's first outright Inter-Ac title in 39 years. In 2012 he again led the Fords to the championship game undefeated in the I-Ac, coming up just short of the crown in the final game. 2013 saw another share of the I-Ac Title for the Fords, their third in his tenure.
He has produced 41 All Inter-Ac selections and 6 AA All State selections. Under his leadership the program has grown from 37 players in grades 9-12, to close to 75 players that will compete in 2014. In 2012 Haverford was one of the top schools in the area in producing DI recruits (5 total). During the 2014 season, 11 of his former players will compete at the collegiate level.

Prior to joining The Haverford School in 2005, Murphy taught and coached at The Episcopal Academy for 8 years. He was a member of the Varsity Football coaching staff for 5 years as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach. At EA he helped lead EA to a share of the Inter-Ac title in 2004, their first in 21 years, and QB Brian FitzPatrick was named City Player of the Year.
